MHS Serves

Date: 05/14/24

Today, MHS announced the creation of MHS Serves, a $12 million health equity fund that will support key community-based programs and resources across Indiana that focus on reducing and eliminating health disparities.

This new project reflects MHS’ purpose of pursuing health equity for Hoosiers. MHS Serves will achieve measurable impact for our communities through partnerships that invest in initiatives aimed at dismantling barriers to health.

“I’m proud to announce the creation of MHS Serves, our statewide health equity fund several years in the making,” said MHS President and CEO, Kevin O’Toole. “MHS’ mission is to transform the health of the community one person at a time, and MHS Serves will allow us to expand our social determinants of health focus in new and exciting ways.”

MHS Serves will provide a minimum of $2 million a year over the next six years through partnerships and innovations to improve health equity across the State. MHS will collaborate with long-time partner Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) and Black Onyx to manage the fund.

MHS’ Health Equity Committee will work with members, providers, advocates, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to identify current factors that are leading to health disparities and determine research-based interventions. From there, MHS will provide funding and/or develop partnerships with the goal of reducing or eliminating the disparity.

MHS Serves’ first partnership opportunity, Broadband Access Strategic Partnership, will focus on empowering underserved communities by increasing partner organizations’ capacity to support internet and technology adoption. Organizations interested in applying for partnership funding can find the guidelines and application at MHS Serves or by emailing strategicpartnerships@mhsserves.org.
